Brakeless
'Brakeless' is a multidisciplinary project shot in London, Edinburgh, New York and Mexico, covering underground communities formed around urban cycling.
Designed for track-racing, Fixed Gear bikes were adopted by Delivery Messengers in the 1970's for minimal maintenance and thrill of riding, later popularised by illegal street-racing scenes of the 2000's.
Run without brakes, the machine becomes an extension of its handler, carrying with it tactile memories that exist in its dents and decals collected through constant use.
This project explores the relationship between material and man, celebrating the bike as both a device of anarchy and a canvas for social resilience in modern city life.
